| DJ Phatrick |
Patrick Huang aka DJ Phatrick has been involved with the Bay Area hip hop community since he first moved to Berkeley from Houston, TX, in 2000, to pursue a degree in Ethnic Studies University of California, Berkeley. Organizing through the student group, UC Berkeley Students for Hip Hop, Patrick initiated the first ever campus hip hop outreach program where college students used the positive aspects of the culture hip hop to educate and inform community youth in the East Bay about social justice and higher education. Also through Students for Hip Hop, Patrick collaborated, organized, and promoted numerous community hip hop events including the yearly free hip hop festival Hip Hop in the Park, and the hugely successful Revolution 2004: Education Not Incarceration concert featuring Dead Prez. Hip hop educator and community organizer by day, the night transforms Patrick into Phatrick, a professional dj who spins anything funky and soulful, from Al Green to Zion I and has graced the stage with such acts as De La Soul and DJ Premier. With partner DJ Treat U Nice, and MC DoD.A.T. of The Attik, Phatrick comprises one-third of TricknTreat Productions, a crew dedicated to bringing back the fun of old skool park jams to the Oakland nightlife. When not rocking the dancefloor, Phatrick helps rock crowds as the official dj for Native Guns, comprised of MCs KIWI and BAMBU. Photo Courtesy of David Huang
