| Invisible Cities |
The Invisible Cities are an indie pop group based in San Francisco. Usually
performing as a trio, the Cities have also been seen out and about as a duo
or even a quartet. Built upon a foundation supported by really great songs,
their incandescent, angular music has been likened to the sounds of Yo La
Tengo, Throwing Muses, Pixies, and the Replacements while of course
maintaining its own uniqueness. In particular, Tim Bulkley's jazz-inflected
drumming lends nuanced texture and pulse to the harmonies and intertwining
guitars of Han Wang and Sadie Contini that sets the Cities apart from its
peers. Han's brother Gary (also a jazz musician by trade) is also often on
hand to rock the bass in his own inimitable wway.
The Cities have been playing out together since June 2002, and have covered
many of the usual SF bay area starting points: Edinburgh Castle, Hotel Utah,
Cafe Du Nord, Club Galia, and the Stork Club (opening for Damo Suzuki of
Can). In November they played in the Craigslist Band Show at Broadway
Studios. Their demo v1.0 has recently been reviewed on a couple websites:
http://www.indieville.com/reviews/invisiblecities.htm and
http://www.timmcmahan.com/invisible.htm -- and they are currently working on
their debut album.
