| bittersweeet! attack of the singer/songwriters II |
"Kevin So is doing for young Americans what Bob Dylan did for the 60's generation. Carving his songs from sweet r&b, hot rock, hip hop, and folk-pop, he presents his life and times in brash strokes of insight, wit, and empathy." Boston Globe
Yes, it's here again. The best of emerging singer/songwriters- local and east coast.
Artists:
REX & ROMMELL
ANAMUDE
JULIA LAU
and
KEVIN SO (Boston)
ANAMUDE: the pacific coast highway hugs the mountain side and blends to the main street of the town i grew up in. nestled off the southern california coast is the pier i spent many sunday afternoons, sometimes with a few pensive fishermen, many times just alone.
i try to think about where this music comes from and right now i only see part of a highway on the pacific coast that hugs and bends around a mountain side. it passes through the town i grew up in, where there is a pier onto the ocean's edge, where i found my crossroad and where patiently i had waited for it to find me.
JULIA LAU: Oakland-based alternative folk/rock singer songwriter Julia Lau writes and sings with a passion and sense of purpose that is unabashed and striking. Whether she’s singing about a new love, her childhood fears, or the challenges facing young women today… one thing is constant -- Julia means what she sings. Her lyrics are heartfelt, honest and intelligent. And, with a voice that is at times intimate and whispered and at other times powerful and insistent, she lays before you her truth - an unfinished collage of stories from ancestors, to lovers, to her own emotion-filled life.
KEVIN SO: Performing nonstop across the US since 1996, Kevin So has become one of the most talked about artists on the national music scene. Even more significant, Kevin - songwriter and equally gifted musician - is an important contributor to the grand history of American popular music.
Kevin currently resides in Brooklyn, NY and enjoys browsing used CDs and fashionable sneaker shops. He shoots a basketball right handed but plays miniature golf left handed - thus making him ambi-dextrous.
